Charles River School, located in Dover, Massachusetts just west of Boston provides a challenging and rewarding academic experience for children in PreKindergarten through eighth grade.  Founded in 1911, the school’s mission seeks to create a community characterized by curiosity and exploration, as well as respect for self and others.  In an intellectually and culturally rich environment of small classes, hands-on engagement, and personal attention from teachers and mentors, today’s students learn critical thinking, analytical reasoning, cogent speaking and writing, and both logical and creative problem-solving skills.  With a student enrollment of 200+ drawn from 28 towns, Charles River School values diversity and works to maintain an inclusive community. The school program includes strong academics, arts and athletics.

The Director of Admissions and Outreach is responsible for the leadership and management of all aspects of our child-centered admission process including marketing, student outreach, recruitment, application evaluation, selection, and enrollment of new students as well as re-enrollment of our current students. The Director of Admissions and Outreach reports to the Head of School and is a member of the school’s Leadership Administrative Team. This is a twelve-month position.

This is an exciting time to join the leadership team at Charles River School.  A new Head of School, Gretchen Larkin, currently Head of Milton Academy’s Lower School, will begin her post on July 1, 2014. The current Head, Catherine Gately, is retiring from CRS at the end of June 2014, after 21 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate sufficient interest and applications from families of children who match the profile of successful CRS students consistent with the school’s target enrollment;
  • Direct efforts to retain current families’ confidence in a CRS education to achieve 95 percent retention among continuing students;
  • Communicate effectively the school’s mission, philosophy, core values, and program;
  • Coordinate the school’s marketing, public relations, and outreach efforts to ensure clear, effective, consistent and accurate messaging regarding school’s mission, program and culture;
  • Coordinate staff assisting with the admissions program as well as parent volunteers;
  • Collaborate with faculty as working partners in the admissions process;
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with feeder programs, local schools, and community-based organizations;
  • Compile, manage, analyze, and report admission data trends and projections to various constituent groups including the Head of School and Board of Trustees;
  • Lead and work with our Enrollment Management Task Force;
  • Foster connection with and support newly accepted students and their parents/ guardians;
  • Coordinate and interpret results of admission screening tools including, but not limited to, ISEE, ERB, in-house screening instruments, etc.

Qualities:

  • Background in education/teaching with an abiding interest in child development;
  • Outstanding communications skills - whether in writing, presenting, or through one-to-one or small group interactions;
  • Equally comfortable and effective in working with young children, parents, educational professionals and community members;
  • Personal commitment to and appreciation for the fundamental merits and imperatives for a diverse and inclusive educational community;
  • Ability to lead and to collaborate;
  • Inviolate integrity;
  • Experience working with data bases, such as FileMaker Pro;
  • Commitment to the pursuit of personal and professional growth.

Experience:
  • A minimum of three years experience managing independent school admission processes;
  • Commitment to and comfort with advancing the school’s mission, philosophy, and core values, including diversity;
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree in relevant field preferred;
  • Experience working with School and Student Services systems for financial aid;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and analyze data as key elements in planning and problem solving;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to leverage developing technologies as tools for communication, networking, outreach, and recruitment;
  • A proven track record of efficient project management, including initiating and completing multiple tasks, independently or collaboratively, as required.
