Position Details:
Position Summary:
Training level for new Maintenance Technicians with little or no plant experience. Responsible for preventative maintenance (CLI, Sweeping the forward & return spectrum, power supply maintenance, return ingress management) and emergency maintenance (outage restoration and area problems) from the Optical Node receiver to subscriber point of service connection.
Needs to meet required Certifications within 12 months of hire date. Performs preventative maintenance in the areas of:
1)CLI in compliance of FCC rules & regulations. 2)Balancing and Sweeping both forward and reverse spectrums. 3)Power Supply maintenance. 4)Troubleshooting sub-band problems.
Diagnoses and repairs system outages within a two hour time frame utilizing appropriate methods and equipment.
Assists in FCC compliance testing.
Resolves area problems both forward and reverse.
Performs follow-up on new plant activation.
Balances and Sweeps both forward and reverse to appropriate levels.
Completes required system sweeps for signal leakage followed by calculation, measurement, logging and reporting weekly CLI measurements.
Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment.
Maintains assigned vehicle and tools in a secure manner and performs minor preventative maintenance tasks.
Adheres to all administrative procedures associated with position.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
High School diploma, GED or relevant work experience
0-2 years of experience in area of responsibility
Additional System Requirements:
Possession of a valid Nevada drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
Two years experience in technical cable operations. (Or equivalent)
Skilled in resolving installation and service technical problems using accepted practices, procedures and FCC technical standards.
Skilled in the operation of SLM, Leakage detector, VOM and Locator.
Basic math skills.
Able to physically identify hard-line equipment and its purpose.
Ability to read maps / system prints
Certified in pole climbing, use of extension ladders and bucket trucks
.Ability to work all shifts: Graveyard, Swing, Weekends, Holidays.
Recommended Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Demonstratable knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.
Basic AC/DC circuit knowledge.
Unity gain understanding.
Pole line maintenance skills.
Volo View skills
Ability to use a TDR
Good working knowledge of online troubleshooting tools to identify connectivity and/or speed issues.
SCTE involvement
On-Call rotation
Performance Measures:
Meeting established standards of preventative maintenance for a given geographic area over time.
Ability to effectively communicate.
Outage restoration time.
CLI performance and reporting.
Adherence to all administrative procedures.
Job inspection performance.
Initiative and Team participation.
Trends of activity in geographic area of responsibility.
Financial Accountability:
Each technician is issued equipment by the company (test equipment, company vehicle and stock) valued at approximately $100,000. Directly responsible for an area encompassing a minimum of 16,000 homes, 10,000 subscribers, 800 active devices and 134 plant miles. (Estimated plant value of 5 Million Dollars)
Environment/Working Conditions:
Outside work.
Electricity, heights, dangerous tools, traffic.
Extreme weather conditions.
Working outside after sunset.
Unscheduled overtime as needed.
Occasionally working in manholes.
Daily driving of a company vehicle
Physical Qualifications/Physical Efforts:
Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., work in cramped spaces and at heights.
Ability to tolerate weather extremes.
Strength and coordination sufficient to perform pole and ladder climbing.
Visual Requirements:
Vision, depth perception and hand eye coordination so to perform regular job duties.
Visual acuity necessary to operate test equipment.
