Systems Administrator
The National Solar Observatory (NS0) in Sunspot, New Mexico is accepting applications for an on-site full-time Systems Administrator.
NSO is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation. Sunspot is located about 35 miles outside of Alamogordo, NM in the Sacramento Mountains at about 9,200 elevation. Operating systems in use at the NSO include Solaris 9 and 10, Linux variants including CentOS and Ubuntu, Windows XP/7/Server 2008, and Mac OS X.
This position emphasizes experience with UNIX systems over Windows. Requires strong technical, analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Two or more years' experience administering unix-like operating systems and administering Windows and Windows Server. 4 yr degree in computer science or related field with 4 years of experience in systems and network administration + 5 more years' experience in systems and network administration.
