Description of Duties (This is a brief summary of the hiring department and the duties of the role):

This position provides critical support to the administrative functions, SEED Program operations, client facing training development, and outreach/stakeholder engagement for the Albany Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted by the Massry School of Business at the University at Albany. The position reports to the Albany SBDC Director with duties and responsibilities that will include:

  • Operate and manage the center’s SEED Program including applicant recruitment and screening, coordination with the Massry School of Business corresponding MBA course, lead weekly program classes, the development of the participant business plans, financial projections, homework assignments, program reporting and maintaining the program course platform.
  • Assist in developing and executing the center’s client facing training programs including, program schedule, program development, administrative reporting, fiscal reporting for the programs.
  • Assist in outreach and stakeholder engagement efforts for the Albany SBDC in the 12 counties of the center’s coverage area including attending networking events on behalf of the center, attending stakeholder meetings and planning collaborative events with stakeholders and community partners.
  • Assist the fiscal and administrative reporting responsibilities of the center to the SBA, NY SBDC Lead Center and School of Business.
  • Assist in the day-to-day financial management of the center including, but not limited to purchase order and invoice processing, budget management and account reconciliations.
  • Assisting in the onboarding and development of new business advisors.
  • Assist with the development resources and tools to meet client needs including but not limited to: fact sheets, guides, spreadsheets, video demonstrations, and webinars/seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Both measurable and soft skill requirements):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, marketing, accounting, economics however, a minimum of 3 years prior business ownership or management experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Prior employment experience with an economic development organization.
  • Have prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated and directed, with experience determining priorities, strategies and processes in partnership with others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate over the phone, in person, on online platforms (Zoom, Skype, Teams, etc.).
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications, customer service, client follow up, overall business acumen, quantitative and qualitative evaluation and client outreach.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing economic and client situations, pivot emphasis and time as required by disaster recovery, market changes or client needs; flexible, adaptable person eager to be involved in depth with economic recovery efforts within New York State experience working remotely with clients or teams.
  • Maturity to understand and empathize with business owners during a difficult time even while providing those same owners with direct and at times challenging questions, feedback and commentary on the state of their business plans, operations and recovery efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a business advisor, associate /assistant director or a director of a SBDC regional center.
  • Prior experience with PowerPoint; QuickBooks, Constant Contact, Learnworlds, Neoserra, ChatGPT, Claude, Fliki, software platforms.
  • Self-motivated and directed, with experience determining priorities, strategies and processes in partnership with others.
  • Verbal and written fluency in a language other than English.
  • Relevant business process improvement experience, including leading others in a thorough and fact-driven analysis of overall business operations.
  • Experience working remotely with clients or teams.
