Employment is with The Research Foundation for The State University of New York, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.

Reporting to the Director, the Research Compliance Analyst (RCA) provides support to the University at Albany‘s (UAlbany) research compliance mission. The Office of Regulatory and Research Compliance (ORRC) supports faculty, staff and students in the conduct of research with integrity and ethical consideration. The RCA works with researchers and University offices to ensure that researchers, the Research Foundation for SUNY and UAlbany are able to meet their regulatory, sponsor and policy obligations.

The RCA assists researchers in adhering to the many regulations and policies governing research, creative, and scholarly pursuits. This includes conflict of interest management, data use agreements, the responsible conduct of research, export control compliance, and other regulatory and ethical principles that apply to research. The incumbent will support the Director with the conflict-of-interest review, export control management, research integrity, and training functions of ORRC by providing professional analytical and technical assistance to researchers so that they may carry out their work compliantly. The incumbent will be the primary contact for researchers regarding initial conflict-of-interest disclosures and processing of data use agreements. Additionally, the RCA will assist office leadership in developing and implementing education and outreach programs based on federal, state, and University regulations/policies, including advising researchers, conducting trainings (e.g., class lectures, department seminars, special topics sessions), and developing education/outreach materials (e.g., email outreach, website content, informational slide decks). Incumbent will also perform other duties as required to support ORRC in its mission.

Eligible for up to 50% remote work.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligible to work in the US; it is not anticipated that the employer will be able to afford visa sponsorship for this position.

A Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization and two years of professional experience; OR an Associate’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization and 4 years of professional experience; OR six years of professional experience. Professional experience needs to include the interpretation, analysis, application, review or writing of regulations, laws or polices.

Experience being a problem-solver, well-organized, efficient, and capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and requests simultaneously.

Experience analyzing and synthesizing complex concepts and technical details and transfer into written documents.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to set appropriate priorities between multiple concurrent tasks, be self-directed, have proven ability to prioritize duties and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment; have a demonstrated an ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Experience effectively interacting with constituencies at all levels (faculty, staff, students, etc.)

An ability be able to provide university researchers with superior support to facilitate efficient and effective review processes in support of ethical research.

Experience providing excellent communication (interpersonal, written, and oral) and customer service.

Experience utilizing contemporary technologies and software to complete office work.

Must have the ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree and demonstrated experience in public policy, law, foreign influence, research ethics, business to business contracting, risk management, conflict of interest, or export control.

General knowledge of ethics and compliance concepts, such as standards of conduct, business ethics, best practices, hotline management, and managing non-compliance.

One or more years of experience in any of the following:

  1. Experience working in a research-intensive institution of higher education or non-profit;
  2. Experience in export control administration;
  3. Experience in conflict-of-interest management;
  4. Experience in internal controls; or
    • Professional legal experience in administrative law.
    • Professional certification in export controls, compliance or research administration at the time of hire.
