Full Time Middle School Humanities (English and/or History) Teacher & Advisor (Grades 6-8)
2016-2017 School Year

SFDS seeks an experienced and enthusiastic middle school humanities teacher and advisor for the 2016-17 school year. Successful candidates will have extensive experience in the classroom teaching 6th, 7th, or 8th grade  humanities, weaving history with literature, writing, and public speaking into their curriculum.  The passionate teacher for this position will have experience with inquiry-based learning, technology integration, and innovative curriculum development.   Responsibilities include teaching history while collaborating with the English and history team, serving as an advisor to a small group of students, and participating in all aspects of faculty life. Experience leading cross-curricular activities is a plus.  This position is full-time, and salary is competitive and commensurate with experience with excellent benefits.

6th, 7th, and 8th graders read a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and Shakespeare; most of their texts integrate with the social studies curriculum. This integration focuses on Ancient Greece and Rome in 6th grade, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in 7th grade, and American history in 8th grade.  Students in grades 6-8 utilize design thinking strategies and benefit from a one-to-one iPad program.
