Summary of Position:

The After School Enrichment Program Director researches, designs and oversees a daily program of varied, age appropriate activities and enrichment classes held after school for grades K-8. The AEP Director is responsible for the management and supervision of the Afternoon Enrichment Program for grades K-4, The Commons for grades 4-8, Enrichment Classes and Individual Music Instruction, The heart of this position and of afterschool lies in fostering an environment and community that allows for child directed play and an appreciation for and sensitivity to the mixed age groups present. The AEP Director will maintain a safe and positive after school environment for the San Francisco Day School Community and continue to improve the quality of all areas as needed. This individual is responsible for recruiting for hire all AEP staff and enrichment class instructors, and providing necessary training and evaluation throughout the school year. The AEP Director keeps parents informed in writing about schedules, fees, vacation programs, staff changes, and acts as liaison with faculty and staff for all AEP related events. This is a professional position that requires a significant time commitment. 

Essential Functions:

Program

  • Designs and oversees daily program of varied, age appropriate activities for grades K-2 and Enrichment class program held after school for grades K-8. Maintains after school calendar and monitors the assigning of rooms after school. Provides stimulating program for students in grades 3-8 who do not attend classes as well as special programs for all-day AEP on specified days when regular classes are not held. This includes creating and running camps during vacation weeks, summer excluded.  Monitors sign-in and sign-out of students.
  • Maintains approved pick up persons, emergency contacts and permission to leave campus forms for all after school students
  • Responds promptly to and initiates when necessary contact with parents about individual student progress and behavior. Keeps parents informed in writing about schedules, fees, vacation programs, staff changes, etc. at the beginning of each new session.
  • Maintains cooperative, supportive relationships with all faculty and staff. Informs classroom teachers of their students’ involvement, interests and attitude. Attends all necessary faculty meetings and school events and maintain a presence during the school day.
  • Along with the Facilties Manager, the Director  creates an afterschool emergency plan and routinely evaluates the program’s safety an attends to safety concerns promptly.
  • Meets regularly with Head of Lower School to share information about program, students and staff, problem solving and planning.
  • Evaluates enrichment classes and make changes with after school enrichment providers when necessary

Personnel

  • Recruits, supervises and evaluates all AEP staff and enrichment class instructors. Holds staff meetings for sharing information, planning and camaraderie. Meets with each staff member bi-annually for supervision and evaluation, and provides regular staff with annual written evaluation.
  • Establishes and maintains a spirit of open communication, cooperation, and team building among staff. Encourages staff to offer program suggestions and provide opportunities for implementation.

Financial

  • Keeps precise, accurate daily records of student enrollment. Prepares monthly billing statements for the Business Office.
  • Keeps precise, accurate daily records of payroll time cards. Prepares payroll information for Business Office bi-weekly.
  • Acts as purchasing agent for program. Submits check requests, receipts, etc., as needed, to Business Office.
  • Prepares annual budget for Business Office. Meets periodically with Chief Financial Officer to discuss annual revenue and expenses.
  • Reviews enrollment and revises Enrichment class and Individual Music Instruction hourly rate fees as needed.
  • Reviews and submits all Enrichment and Music Instructor invoices.

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Personal Qualities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.  Master’s preferred.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Minimum of CPR certification required.  Other certifications in specialty safety areas preferred.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Proficiency in the use of Macintosh computers and related software applications.
  • Strong communications skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments and prioritize accordingly.
  • Strong group leadership skills, capable of coordinating and organizing meetings.
  • Must have patience, tact, friendly disposition, enthusiasm
  • Favorable fingerprint search and TB test results.
