Industrial Maintenance Technician

Provides support to the Valpak facility by applying knowledge and services to support operation and maintenance of production equipment. The Maintenance function includes service, troubleshooting, and repair for the production equipment. Performance is required in both preventative maintenance and general repair/service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of mechanical and basic electrical maintenance functions. This includes understanding the materials required for maintaining each equipment area, their general functions for logical scheduling purposes, standard repair procedures, and the significance of accurate and timely processing of work orders within these areas, including using SAP to generate work orders, order material and confirm work completion.
  2. Minimizes machine downtime by troubleshooting and resolving mechanical and basic electrical and/or software and hardware issues using technical manuals, schematics and training. Informs production workers of routine preventative techniques and monitors compliance.
  3. Sets the example within the Maintenance area supporting a strong focus on internal customers by applying the highest level of service to internal customers through work order processing. Works with others when problem-solving and repairing or working within their area. Functions in a coaching/sharing role to impart experience and knowledge with other technicians.
  4. Completes required training and certification for the Maintenance area in accordance with the Maintenance progression process for Technician. This includes, but is not limited to participating in new maintenance employee safety orientation, basic skills training, equipment-specific training, business orientation, material handling equipment, and teamwork/cell processes. Attends educational workshops; reviews technical publications and establishes personal networks.
  5. Develops functional knowledge of the maintenance work order system by generating work orders, viewing status of work orders, and closing work orders when complete.
  6. Diagnoses routine and complex issues related to repair/service scheduling; tools required for mechanical repairs, generate potential solutions based on mechanical knowledge and makes repairs as required. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  7. Reads, analyzes and interprets schematics, I/O sheets, technical documents, instructions. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  8. Accomplishes duties using safe work practices and equipment while being responsible for reporting all injuries and observed unsafe practices. Coach fellow employees on safe work practices as appropriate and contribute to the overall success of the company’s safety program.
  9. Perform related work and additional duties as needed or required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:Vocational training, certification, and/or minimum of three years related experience in basic mechanics and electrical skill areas. Basic understanding of electrical systems, PLC’s (programmable logic controllers), HMI’s (human machine interfaces) and/or drives required. Experience interpreting drawings, diagrams and schematics (electrical, pneumatic, and other controls).

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must supply own hand tools standard and metric with the exception of specialty tools.
  • Ability to use shop tools either electric or pneumatic.
  • Basic analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills (mechanical and electrical)
  • Communication skills (verbal, written)
  • Occasionally lift and/or manually move up to 40 lbs
  • Occasionally required to work at heights up to 30 feet above ground on a ladder, in a scissors lift or in a bucket.
  • Detail oriented and precise
  • Able to distinguish color differences
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with leads, peers, co-workers, vendors
  • Knowledge of and general application skills in Windows Office environment and working knowledge of SAP
