ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground.We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years.Within ISR & Space Systems, in the Commercial Space & Sea Systems business, we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

As part of these products, Electrical Design Engineering provides the electrical design definition for the various electrical products required in these systems such as process controllers, sensor signal conditioning, secondary power supplies, brushless DC motor controllers, actuator drive and control, and more.These electronics components are designed for long life, high reliability and operate in severe radiation and thermal environments. Electrical Design Engineering is intimately involved with requirements generation, EEE procurement support, and production support and system integration.

In addition to proven technical and management experience, because of the evolving commercial space market and the need to meet challenging price points, candidates must have a demonstrated track record in product or process cost reductions.

The responsibility and duties of the Electrical Design Manager include

• Technically responsible for the overall electrical design integrity of all products designed at ISR & Space Systems
• Provide leadership, mentoring and support to the extended UTAS Electrical Engineering team
• Manage Electrical Engineering personnel including performance reviews and training needs/li>
• Manage and balance the Electrical Engineering resource load to meet project demand
• Source and develop external electrical design resources which can be utilized on demand to meet fluctuating resource requirements
• Develop and maintain the electrical engineering design practices, processes and standards
• Participate in all technical design reviews to ensure electrical design integrity is achieved
• Responsible for the selection and management of electrical engineering tools to maximize efficiency of the product development process
• Provide electrical technical support to other areas of the organization including manufacturing engineering, bids and proposals, and programs
• Contribute to the conceptual design, detailed design and validation of electrical sub-systems and components as an individual or as a team leader in conjunction with product design activities
• Keep in synchronization with electrical industry trends and new technologies that may be relevant to UTAS's present and future product development.Develop internal IR&D charter to support future development.
• Manage the Electrical Development labs including the hardware Development lab, the Electromagnetic effect lab and all associated capital equipment to support the lab activities.

Qualifications - Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering a minimum, Masters preferred

Education - 15-25 years of relevant hands on experience. Supervising or managing associates within the Aerospace / Defense industry a plus.
