Description:

Senior Communications Engineer (Multiple Positions) (Bombardier Transportation (HOLDINGS) USA, Inc.; Pittsburgh, PA) Implement data network and RF communication system designs including fiber optic distribution, network switch/router/firewall software and configuration, and RF system link budgets and architecture. Work on application of the communications system relevant to Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) solutions. Design communications systems (network and RF) using off the shelf components based on customer requirements. Oversee technical deliverables to ensure schedule and quality of work are maintained, including installation design, software configuration management, maintenance procedures and instructions, Bill of Materials (BOM), drawings, test procedures, and requirements documents. Prepare test procedures and support Product Introduction to demonstrate compliance of installed communications systems. Prepare estimates to complete work tasks. Monitor engineering progress against budget throughout project duration.

Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, plus 5 years of post-bachelor’s, progressive related work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 4 years of experience with the following: Designing and troubleshooting fiber optic systems, including OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) usage and OLTS (Optical-Loss Test Sets) usage for testing physical cable splices; Network Traffic Engineering including capacity planning of system design for LAN to MAN size networks; network redundancy protocols; dimensioning techniques, optical link budget, and traffic analysis; RF link budgets, signal propagation and modulation; utilizing AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio; and, utilizing, configuring, and developing each of the following: Cisco Switches and Hirschmann Switches (including Cisco Catalyst switches, Industrial Ethernet switches, ASA firewall, and Hirschmann Modular Backbone and Rugged Rail switches); secure Layer 2 and Layer 3 Industrial Ethernet systems; high-availability and high-redundancy systems; and, VLANs, QOS, trunking, RSTP, PVSTP+, Network ACLs, SNMP, and SSL.

Must have the following certification: Cisco Certified Network Professional Routing and Switching (CCNP Routing and Switching) Certification.

Travel up to 15% required.
