Job Summary: 

NOTE: The University of California Regents has implemented pay reductions and furloughs due to the State of California budget crisis. This position may be subject to the pay reductions through August 31, 2010.

The UCSF Foundation and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (D&AR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; for formal acceptance and administration of all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and for managing all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. The D&AR office staffs the UCSF Foundation. The office is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF.

The Executive Director of Development, Medical Center provides senior level development support to the CEO of the UCSF Medical Center and his top leadership: focuses on expanding individual philanthropy for the Medical Center; maintains responsibility for a range of comprehensive development functions focused on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual prospects and donors, with emphasis on gift potential of $2.5 million and above; in collaboration with the CEO, top leadership, faculty and the Development Office, maintains a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects; devises cultivation, solicitation and closure strategy for each prospect; manages the CEO’s participation in advancing the development priorities of the Medical Center by working closely with the CEO and respective program directors and academic and volunteer leaders as appropriate; collaborates with the CEO and Development Office units in strategic planning, goal setting and implementation; works collaboratively with the CEO, Vice Chancellor, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor Medical Development on the campaign for the Children’s and Cancer Hospital; ensures coordination and effectiveness of prospect solicitation, events, recognition activities, planned giving proposals, and other activities in the context of larger institutional strategies and program goals; and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

College degree and at least fifteen years experience in development (or equivalent applicable experience) with a minimum of seven years of fundraising experience in academic medicine or a medical organization; expertise and credibility to serve as a senior advisor to the Medical Center Director and his cabinet and also seasoned development officers; superior track record of working with principal level donors and scientific leaders, be exceptionally organized and have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Development Office and across campus and to interact at the highest level with donors, volunteers and faculty leaders; a strategic vision and experience successfully soliciting gifts greater than $1 million is also required.
