University of California, San Francisco Job Summary: NOTE The University of California Regents has implemented pay reductions and furloughs due to the State of California budget crisis. This position may be subject to the pay reductions through August 31, 2010. The UCSF Foundation and the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; for formal acceptance and administration of all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and for managing all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. The UDAR office staffs the UCSF Foundation. The office is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF. This Executive Director, Children's Hospital position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Children’s Hospital development organization; manages a large and diverse staff and is directly and personally involved in fundraising at the highest levels; provides strategic advice and support to the senior campus leadership; and perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Must have a college degree and at least fifteen years experience in development (or equivalent applicable experience) with a minimum of seven years of fundraising experience in an academic medicine or a medical organization; working knowledge of the principles, practices and protocols of successful development strategies and tactics in a major research university in an urban setting; demonstrated ability to conceptualize, persuasively articulate and implement development programs of comparable size and complexity including the ability to envision and present future direction; knowledge of the issues facing higher education and academic health sciences centers, and of the basic tenants on which a public university is established; strong communications skills to express, both verbally and in writing, the mission of the campus and its programs, compelling external audiences to support the enterprise, as well as to communicate the accomplishments, goals and objective of the development enterprise to internal audiences; management and administrative skills to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other senior professionals and high-level volunteers; interpersonal skills to interact harmoniously with academic leaders, faculty, donors and volunteers.
