The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The Association is divided physically into the National Center (located in Dallas, Texas) and 12 affiliate offices that cover the United States and Puerto Rico.  Core values of inclusiveness and sensitivity are important components of the fabric of the organization. The Association is committed to developing an inclusive workforce that represents the diversity of thought and culture, necessary to meet today's customer and expectations. It is the intent of the association that its staff and volunteers represent proportionately its increasingly diverse population so that it can maximize the symbiotic relationship between its customers and the American Heart Association.
